Restoring Homes, Restoring Hope

HOUSING REHABILITATION:

Rainbow house #8 was completed in Oct, 2007 and sold earlier this year (refer to details in Archives)

Rainbow Rehab, Inc. has recently purchased project house #9.  Located at 303 Putnam Dr. and built in 1936, this house has three bedrooms, one bath and approximately 800 sq ft of conditioned space.  It was occupied until earlier this year.  Rehabilitation will include, but will not be limited to, new roof, new wiring, plumbing and HVAC system, new floor coverings, new sheet rock, new bath and updated kitchen.

Rainbow Rehab, Inc. "Goes Green" on this project and will recycle materials removed from this house and utilize recycled and energy efficient materials and systems in the reconstruction, to the greatest extent possible.

Demolition has gone a bit slower than we had planned.  We identified opportunities to recycle much of the interior wall and floor material and have carefully removed it for the installation of electric wiring and installation.  We will refinish the original wall coverings (wood paneling) and the hardwood floors.  To date we have completed the demolition and are now reframing some of the interior walls.  Rough plumbing, electric and HVAC is complete.  Within the next month, we will be installing the new roof, insulation and begin rebuilding the interior walls.

Workdays are scheduled for most Saturday morning, and many Tuesday and Thursday mornings.  Anyone interested in helping with this project, either as an individual or a group, are welcomed to sign up through this website. Use our Individual or Group sign up forms to volunteer. Please contact our Scheduler (Scheduler@rainbowrehab.org) or the President (president@rainbowrehab.org) for additional information or assistnace.   No skills required.  We could particularly use the help during the week.

EMERGENCY REPAIRS:

Rainbow Rehab will continue to make emergency repairs for qualified families in Leon County, but emphasis will be placed on our current rehab project until it is complete

Our mission is to serve people with lower incomes by making it possible for them to own, or continue to own, properly renovated homes. We renovate properties for resale to disadvantaged families, provide free or reduced-fee repair services for lower-income homeowners, and coordinate opportunities for people from all walks of life to work and learn about home-ownership together.

Rainbow Rehab would like to move from rehabbing one house at a time to providing an ongoing service to volunteer construction teams, low-income homeowners, and our community at large. We'd eventually like to have several houses being rehabbed at the same time, as well as providing emergency repairs to low-income homeowners. We'd like to have a variety of teams of trained and semi-skilled volunteers capable of addressing a variety of construction projects, from landscaping to plumbing to roofing to foundation repairs.
